Statement on Bombing of Laurelhurst Park

The Office of Mayor Ted Wheeler has not yet commented.

Mayoral Candidate Sarah Iannarone today released a statement on the pipe-bombing of Laurelhurst Park earlier this week:

The silence from the Mayor's office on the recent terrorist attack in Portland speaks volumes. After trying to portray Black Lives Matter demonstrators as murderers, Ted is unable to speak out against the paramilitary cosplayer who threw literal bombs at demonstrators in Laurelhurst Park this week. This city desperately needs a real leader who understands that public safety means keeping an eye on militant right-wingers. They have a long history of attacking demonstrators with fists, trucks, and now homemade bombs. As we remember the anniversary of Charlottesville, we're damn lucky Portland is not mourning another Heather Heyer.

This is the real domestic terrorism in the age of Trump, not the Black Lives Matter movement demanding justice for George Floyd, but the white nationalists who attempt murder with impunity. At every turn, Wheeler has done too little to resist these evil-doers; his silence makes room for their violence.
