Senator Bernie Sanders endorses Sarah Iannarone for Mayor
Late Thursday, Senator Bernie Sanders updated his list of endorsements of “progressive, down-ballot candidates” to include Sarah Iannarone for Portland Mayor.
Portland needs a Mayor we can trust. Sarah Iannarone grew up in a working-class union family. She worked her way from jobs in kitchens to co-found a small business in SE Portland, and to become a Portland-educated urban climate policy expert. Sarah stood up to Trump with the Wall of Moms, and she doesn’t take corporate money - only small donations from the people of Portland. When it’s time to answer to her donors, Sarah Iannarone will listen to the people powering her historic campaign. Sarah says, “when you fight for the people, the people fight for you.”
“Perhaps most impressive are Iannarone’s extensive policy proposals for Portland—detailed, data-informed documents informed by area experts and promising straightforward improvements to city programs. … Iannarone’s proposed response to COVID-19, posted in early March, foretold many of the decisions Wheeler eventually made to combat the virus’ spread.” The Portland Mercury Endorses Sarah Iannarone, May 2020
“Iannarone wants the city to develop a strategic plan for ending its housing emergency, which the previous mayoral administration declared in 2015; she wants to preserve and foster housing for aging Portlanders; she wants to lower construction costs by better coordination among the bureaus.” Willamette Week, January 2020
“If Portlanders are fed up with Wheeler, Iannarone has a simple pitch for them: … she offers Portland a clean break from the string of white men who have run the city since Katz left office 15 years ago. ‘The city deserves better than Ted Wheeler,’ Iannarone says. ‘I have a real vision for Portland, and the reason I've pulled these policies together is because that's what I see as our pathway out of this mess.’” Willamette Week, September 2020
“[Ted Wheeler's] threat to undo the progress this community has made, and risk services for thousands of people, is merely a desperate attempt to win a contentious reelection campaign.”Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury
